I laughed a lot reading this book. Some of the laughter was from reading something genuinely funny, but more of it was the morbid chuckling of someone who relates to a terrible situation. A more genuine Nickle and Dimed the should be required reading for everyone who wonders why poor folk don't just go out and get rich.

Wage Slave Sean Douglas 9781500683450 Books Reviews

Witty, engaging writing... intriguing memoir. This Sean Douglas has seen it all.
Memoir can be a tricky thing. An author can try to be terribly clever and only succeed at failing to be clever. This narrative has a clear, humorous voice- even in some dire circumstances. As far as reading enjoyment goes, I would put this one right up there with Bill Bryson's The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid. Also, I can chuckled and nod my way through it because I've been there- most of us have been.
Wage Slave is a cautionary tale wrapped in a fun and engaging read.I enjoyed the author's frank, conversational style and forthrightness with respect to the details of his numerous jobs. Right from the start he throws the reader right into the action and you hit the ground running on a journey that spans decades of bad bosses and co-workers, comically ironic circumstances and some of the most off-the-wall workplace settings you can imagine. Even a couple of truly touching moments peppered in there for good measure, lest you start to think the guy's entire work history was one long and unpleasant slog. You're torn between feeling bad for the poor guy, and laughing in spite of yourself at the predicaments he finds himself immersed in. The fact that it's all true makes it all the more fascinating.
This book in a collection of the author's job history told in a funny but satirical way.

Some of the jobs I have done and others I can completely relate to. Its so nice to read I'm not the only one who has had to work with people who just want to get you fired for breathing.

Laugh out moments are a plenty here mixed with the darkness of having to live in the car despite having a full time job and not being able to afford rent or willing to share a house with complete dicks who sponge off you and use your stuff without asking.
